We are seeking a candidate with proven experience translating complex information for a general audience. Ideally, you will have at least two years' experience as a professional Te Reo Māori translator and possess excellent proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail. A professional translation qualification (e.g., NAATI, Post Grad Translation Diploma) and membership of the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters (NZSTI) would be highly advantageous. Experience working on projects and/or in government is a plus. Knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa is highly valued, and a tertiary Te Reo Māori degree would be a strong advantage. A solid understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the role of the Crown, as well as knowledge of Te Ao Māori, including Te Reo, Tikanga, and Mātauranga Māori, is essential. Experience working with Māori whānau, hapū, iwi, and hapori, and an understanding of effective learning strategies for Māori learners, are also important. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams) is required, along with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and the flexibility to thrive in a dynamic environment. Resilience and the ability to work effectively under pressure will also be key to your success.
