Are you suffering from burnout? Here’s how to know and what to do.

2020, What. A. Year. It has been challenging for everyone, not just personally but also in the workplace. We have recently met with a number of HR and Practice Managers here in Perth and it is evident that a lot of us are busier than ever and really feeling it.

people2people conducted a mid-year snap survey that indicated 41% of Australian and Kiwi employees felt that that had been asked to do more work with less resources.

people2people spoke to Jane Davis, Director at The Flourishing Institute who said “Burnout seems to be more prevalent and many employees are experiencing fatigue and exhaustion due to prolonged stress. Right now, it is very important for leaders to listen deeply to their team members and understand their personal situations. Focus on meeting their needs; particularly the psychological need to feel competent, the need for control, and social needs,” says Davis.

Here are some of the signs of employee burnout:

  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Headaches or tension
  • Shortness of breath
  • High blood pressure
  • Feeling irritable
  • Anxiousness
  • Loss of motivation
  • Difficulty concentrating or remembering
  • Feeling disengaged
  • Disorganisation
