10 Things I Learned from the Savage Sprint

I have worked with Greg Savage for too many years! Greg hired me into the recruitment industry in January 1994 and more recently he was a founding member of people2people with me, along with Manda Milling and Simon Gressier back in 2005. In the last few months, Greg has teamed up with his brother Chris and they have been sharing recruitment insights and other secrets, in a speaking series throughout Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK and Europe. At the risk of plagiarism and sharing Greg’s IP, I thought I would share a few ideas I took away from the series.

  1. Read these books

    1. Earn What you are Worth by Brian Tracy

    2. Eat that Frog by Brian Tracy

    3. How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

    4. Trusted Advisor by David Maister

  2. “Make their weekend Friday” - A simple idea where Greg suggested that every consultant should make sure that every submitted candidate should be updated on a Friday even when there is no news. No news IS news when you are considering your career options. This is best done on a Friday, whereby you can have a great weekend knowing that everyone has been updated.

  3. Watch Ken Robinson speak about “The Element”

  4. EBNE – Excellent but not enough!

  5. Modern business development is less sell and more brand.

  6. Find your 3rd place.

  7. Check out Shane McClusky’s site for some Facebook hacks.

  8. Recruitment consultants need to work every day on their core skills.

  9. Implement Greg’s 7 point candidate plan. (you will have to attend to get the detail)

  10. Work harder (I heard that too often from Greg!)

You won’t be disappointed if you attend the next Savage Sprint series. You can learn more on Greg’s website www.gregsavage.com and I would highly recommend you subscribe to his blog The Savage Truth
