What's up dog?
As Luffy is a Rottie we struggle daily with judgement from people that don't understand his breed and are quick to be fearful of him whenever we take him for a walk. Luffy is a very loving, well natured, calm, whilst energetic dog that goes to his dads work as a training facility daily as a mascot. Here, many people come through the gates and are greeted by Luffy lovingly. Luffy will sit and wait to be patted and adored, he loves feeling loved. Some students have been scared of Luffy, however with education from my partner and playing with Luffy, they end up falling in love with the breed. On top of going to work, Luffy attends puppy day care every Thursday. Here he runs and play with his friends so we can make sure he's staying social with his puppy friends. Myself, and my partner promote that whilst Rottweilers are known for their protection nature, with the right training and socialisation, this stigma and association with larger breeds, especially Rottweilers should be broken. Luffy is doing great work by helping educate people that big dogs aren't always scary, especially big black dogs, and Rottweilers. We educate people on our daily walks by chatting to people who come pat Luffy, and also talking to owners of Rottweilers who state that they wished that they socialised their Rottie more when they were puppies. We are trying to create awareness about proper socialisation and training to ensure your pup lives their best life.
As I work with children within the OOHC system Luffy comes to work with me when he's not busy to play, engage and be a support for the children I supervise. He allows them to feel comforted and safe, whilst also giving the kids so well needed play time with a pup. The children open up when he's around them and feel more confident to take on the challenges that they face. Luffy is only 8 months old and we are in the process of hopefully obtaining a therapy dog qualification for him.
Luffy is a beautiful soul who deserves to be honoured for all his hard work he's done in such a small time and what he'll continue to do.
