Having a positive mindset comes naturally to some more than others.
Practicing gratitude can lead to better physical and mental health. Having an attitude for gratitude means making a conscious effort to express appreciation on a regular basis. We might be grateful for our job, health, friendships, material items, food on our plate, clothes on our backs, and the list goes on.
As a Director of people2people in Victoria, I challenge my team to focus on the positives and not focus on the negatives. If we can avoid dwelling on the challenges or the negatives, we can attract more positive outcomes. It’s an area in which I consciously want to lead by example, to create a positive atmosphere within the team.
It’s never too late to start developing an attitude of gratitude. If you make it part of your daily routine, it will unconsciously become the new norm for you. Many people find it beneficial using a gratitude journal, however you could start out by expressing appreciation to those around you and work from there. Also keep it mind, you want to surround yourself with people who share a positive attitude. It will assist you if you tend to have a glass half empty approach at times.
Here are a few examples of a positive mindset shift
- I’m so busy / I’m grateful to work in a challenging role where the day goes so quickly and I feel a sense of achievement
- It’s too cold to go to the office / I’m grateful to be out of lockdown so I can leave the house and work in the office with my friendly team
- I’m not where I want to be / I’m grateful for how far I’ve come and I have made small and big wins along the way
So, what are you grateful for today? If you can answer this question daily, you are on your way!
