Are you prepared for the job search journey?

So, you have decided to search for a new job! Great! What now?

Statistics from Seek show 75% of Australians who are currently searching for a new job having been looking for 6 months; stay motivated and keep your checklist of what works for you and NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK.

So, let’s move on to talking about the contributing factors to get you prepared for the job search journey.

A large proportion of job seekers will face some associated challenges, such as motivational blocks, lack of income or the feeling of despondency, for up to six months before they land the right job. The transition from a pandemic creates a shift in our priorities, such as working from home, flexible hours, and location. By having a checklist of what will work for you and what you want prior to your job search will help you  in your job search process.

You must stay motivated during your search, many times I have spoken with job seekers who have lost motivation and are feeling deflated because of unsuccessful outcomes.

- Be realistic about the time it will take, as per Seek  “60% of Australians feel that looking for a new job is a huge task and for good reason. Over a quarter (26%) of job seekers who are currently searching for a new job have been looking for three to six months.” You will need to brace yourself for the inevitable uncertainty of a period that at times may feel has no end. Use this time to partner up with selected recruiters in the market and polish up your resume, Linkedin profile and practice interviews.

- Remain in your current role where possible until you find a more suitable position. This will take away the financial pressure aspect of not having a job can create.

- Keep things in perspective - find comfort in knowing it’s not personal, the market is competitive.

- Adhere to your checklist, although being flexible is always encouraged and be sure to stand firm on your non negotiables.

Partner up with a specialist recruiter specifically covering the location and specialisation that you are looking for. They know their market and can offer invaluable advice during your job search journey.

A standout portfolio should showcase process, not just final designs, with 4-6 high-quality projects. Candidates must be ready to explain their design decisions, handle client feedback, and demonstrate technical skills in Adobe Suite, AutoCAD, and Revit. Soft skills like communication and collaboration are just as vital as software proficiency.
